Paint Finishes
Floater finishing drill from the lane that teaches soft touch, quick release, and balance over a simulated shot blocker.
Instructions
- Place a cone at the middle of the paint (floater line) and one at each elbow
- Player attacks from an elbow with 1-2 dribbles to the floater line
- Shoot a floater off one foot with a high arc
- Rebound and repeat from the opposite elbow
- Progress: add a passive defender with hands up (no contact) near the rim
Coaching Points
- Release is soft and high (aim for a high arc)
- Keep dribble tight into the floater line; don’t drift sideways
- Eyes on the rim early; don’t look at the defender
- Finish with balance; don’t jump forward into the rim area
Variations
- Change the angle of attack
- Use different finishes, such as a eurostep
