3v3/4v4 Shot Selection: Paint Touch Rule
3v3 (or 4v4) with scoring incentives that teach smart shot selection by rewarding paint touches and quality attempts.
Instructions
- Play 3v3 (or 4v4) half court.
- Rule: a shot can only be taken after a paint touch (dribble drive or post touch).
- Score values: layup = 2, open catch-and-shoot = 2, contested jumper = 0 (coach judgment).
- Keep the pace high with a 12-second shot clock.
Coaching Points
- Seek paint touches under control; don’t force drives into crowds
- Move the ball to create open shots (extra pass is rewarded)
- Recognize contested looks and quality of shots
