1v1 Low-Post Battle
Post battle drill that starts with a live entry pass. The offensive post works to seal and score, while the defender denies, fights for position, and contests without fouling
Instructions
- Set three players: passer on the wing, offensive post on the opposite block, and defender in weak-side help position
- On the coach’s signal, the offensive player works to get post position. Defender fronts or plays 3/4 denial based on your defensive system.
- Passer has 3 seconds to make the entry pass.
- II the entry is completed, play live 1v1 until a score or stop. Limit the offensive player to 2 dribbles.
- If the entry is denied for 3 seconds, reset and count it as a defensive win.
- Rotate offense to defense, defense to passer, and passer to offense.
Coaching Points
- Show a clear target hand for the passer.
- Seal and maintain contact until you go get the ball.
- After the catch, spin around the defender using footwork and legal elbow position. Do not hook
- Defender uses footwork to get around the post player, fighting for the position without holding or grabbing
Variations
- Start from different positions
- Do not allow lob passes
- Award the defense 1 point if the offensive player catches the entry pass away from the paint
